Computer Ports

Computer ports or Motherboard I/O interfaces are used to connect external devices to the computer. These interfaces are mostly located on the back side of the motherboard. Number of Interfaces depends on the size of Motherboard and technology used.

PS2 Din Connector

PS2 6 pin din connector
Green for mouse
Purple for keyboard

USB Interface

Older USB 1.0 1.5 Mbps.
          USB 2.0 480 Mbps.
New  USB 3.0 5 Gbps.

Serial Ports

Serial port used to connect the modem, Monitor, mouse, printer etc. It is 09 pin connector. RS 232 standard. Older interface.

Parallel Ports

Send several bits at a time. Used for printers. Older interface.

NIC Network Interface Card

RJ 45 connector is used to connect the Internet.

eSATA external SATA

It is just like USB or Firewire port. It is used to connect an external SATA drive.

VGA Port (Video Graphics Adapter)

Use to connect the monitor. It is 15 pin connector normally in blue color.

DVI Digital Visual Interface

New technology than VGA port. It produces high-quality pictures.

HDMI High Definition Multimedia Interface
