Go is a board game thought to date back to ancient China more than 2,500 years ago.
It is played using black and white stones placed on a grid. The goal is to capture territory and the opponent’s stones.
Although the rules are simpler than with chess, a player in Go typically has a wider choice of moves to make at each turn, and there are many more ways a game can play out.
As a result, many of the top human players rely on their instincts to succeed, making Go a tougher challenge than chess for artificial intelligence systems.
