Server

A specialized machine / software used to connect multiple clients for a service ( Local or Over internet). It may be physical or located on a cloud.

Word “server” is not associated with any machine, it is a role which can be assigned to any computing machine.

A desktop computer may be a server.

Computer is an electronic device used to manipulate data as per instructions. Computer can be classified into multiple categories

Components of Server Machine

Processor is the brain of a computing device. It process input data as per given instructions. Server machines use special kinds of microprocessor for their their operations. Server processors are faster than desktop processor.

Storage is one of the main feature of a server machine. Server machines use more than one hard drives to increase their capacity and reliability.

ECC RAM are used in server machines. Error correcting code RAM are more reliable than non-ECC RAM.It has extra chip to check and correct errors in RAM operation.

Security is the critical component of a sever machine. Multiple security barriers are used in server to stop unauthorized access and attacks.

Server operating system is different than a desktop OS.

Power backup is the back bone of a server architecture. Server machines can not be switch off without any backup plan.
