WiFi Direct


WiFi Direct™ enables devices to establish a direct WiFi connection over which they can send and receive files. WiFi Alliance developed the WiFi Direct standard. It is ad hoc networking and enable devices to connect to each other without a wireless router.
Devices can make a one-to-one connection, or a group of several devices can connect simultaneously.
WiFi range and transfer speeds are significantly higher than those of Bluetooth. Bluetooth 5 is the latest version and it supports 50 Mb upto 240 meter. WiFi direct support 250 m to 400 m. Wi-Fi Direct devices depends on versions 802.11a, g, or n.

How does WiFi direct work?

Wi-Fi Direct-certified devices can form connections with nearly all the WiFi CERTIFIED™ devices you already have. You only need one WiFi Direct device to form a group.
Once a group is formed, other devices can join this group as join a AP. WiFi devices performs both roles, A client and a Access Point. WiFi Direct relies on WPA2 security.

WiFi direct disadvantages

Power consumption.
It supports android 4 and above to start a new group.
Apple devices does not support WiFi direct.
